ROBERT L. "BOB" THOMAS
Robert L. "Bob" Thomas, 82, of Quincy, passed away at 10:00 am Sunday (April 29, 2018) in Blessing Hospital.
Bob was born June 3, 1935 in Brown County, IL near Cooperstown. He was the son of Jerome Jasper and Nora Marie Davis Thomas. He married Helen L. Reische Christy on December 10, 1976 in Quincy. She survives.
Bob was a 1953 graduate of Brown County High School. After graduating high school he served his country in the United States Army from 1955 until his discharge in 1957.
Bob was of the Presbyterian faith and attended Central Baptist Church when he was able. He was a member of Lambert Masonic Lodge No. 296 and an active member of the Quincy Consistory. He belonged to Ansar Temple in Springfield and the Quincy Shrine Club. He served as the Wagonmaster for the Ansar Shrine Belgian Hitch for 13 years. Bob was also a member of the NRA and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 34. He was a wonderful family man who enjoyed boating and camping with his sons and step sons and their families.
Mr. Thomas was employed for 37 years as an electrician for Brown Electric Company until his retirement in 1996.
Survivors include his wife Helen; his sons Randy Thomas (Teresa) of Des Moines, IA and Gary Thomas (Lindsey) of St. Louis, MO; three grandchildren Jason Thomas and Hannah Thomas of Des Moines, IA and Rylee Grace Thomas of St. Louis, MO; three step sons Brad Christy of Jefferson City, MO, Mike Christy (Deb) of Troy, MO and Bruce Christy of Osage Beach, MO; five step grandchildren Brandy Hutzler (Lance) and Brooke Christy of Osage Beach, MO, Olivia Rhea (Daniel) of Troy, MO, Sam Christy and Sarah Christy of Troy, MO and a great grandchild Brantley Hutzler of Osage Beach, MO.
Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jack Lozell Thomas.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Disseler officiating. Burial with military honors by the Quincy American Legion Post No. 37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 and Saturday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital or to the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund.
