ROBERT "BOB" SILMAN SR.
Robert E. "Bob" Silman Sr., 85, of Quincy, died at 8:05 a.m. Tuesday (September 5, 2017) in Blessing Hospital.
Born August 19, 1932 in Burlington, Iowa, Bob was the son of William V. and Bertha Marie Siebrasse Silman.
Mr. Silman served his country in the U. S. Army and the U. S. Army Reserves from 1956 to 1962.
Bob was a member of Union United Methodist Church where he was active in many organizations and activities. He was also a member of Bodley Masonic Lodge No. 1, Quincy Consistory, Ansar Shrine Temple of Springfield, Quincy Shrine Club and the Skeeter Patrol. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, being out on his boat and spending time with his family and friends.
Bob was a 1950 graduate of Quincy High School and attended John Wood Community College, Hannibal LaGrange University and Quincy University. He was employed in advertising services at Gardner Denver for 37 years, retiring in 1987. Following his retirement, Bob worked as a counselor at Recovery Resources, a part time driver for Knapheide Manufacturing and as a parts delivery driver for many years.
Survivors include four children, Anna Marie Korte (James) of Terre Du Lac, MO, Robert E. Silman Jr. (Sue) of Quincy, Debi Niehaus (Roger) of Quincy and Carrie Etta Freeman of Mexico, MO; fifteen grandchildren, Samantha McMackin (Jonathan), Amanda Armbruster (Cary), James Korte II (Carin), Heather Silman, Daniel Silman (Lindsay), Robert E. Silman III, Elizabeth Travis (Shane), William Rossiter (Christine), David Rossiter (Danielle), Rebekah Minton, Joshua Bunte (Jennifer), Jacob Bunte (Stacy), Jaclyn Bunte (Brian Finger), Tracy Niehaus and Lindsay Buehler (Ron); and many loving great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Silman was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, William V. Silman Jr. and James Silman.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning 10:00 in Union United Methodist Church with Pastor Carol Stufflebeam officiating. Burial with Military Honors by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail and the Quincy American Legion Post 37 will be in Sunset Cemetery in Quincy.
Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 6:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and Monday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at Union United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or the Bob Silman Memorial Fund.
