ROBERT GAIL OITKER
Robert Gail Oitker, 93, of Liberty, Illinois, passed away at 8:05 a.m. Monday (April 30, 2018) in the Barry Community Care Center in Barry, Illinois.
Born April 25, 1925 in Adams County, Illinois, Bob was the son of Clarence and Neta Shinn Oitker. He married Mildred M. Brown on January 5, 1943 in Palmyra, Missouri. She preceded him in death on February 28, 1999.
Bob loved the outdoors and enjoyed coon hunting, mushroom hunting, fishing, bowling and watching baseball games. He loved his family and especially loved the time he shared with his granddaughter, Marcy.
Bob farmed for many years on his family farm in rural Liberty. He had also been employed in the warehouse and truck driver at Kohl Grocers. Bob served his community in law enforcement as an Adams County Deputy Sheriff, serving at Chief Deputy for a short time and served as Chief of Police in Payson.
Survivors include a son, Robert "Garth" Oitker of Liberty; a daughter, Goldnita Lynn Schwartz (Bill) of Plainville; three grandchildren, Marlyna Ann "Marcy" Edwards (Thomas) of Liberty, Robert Dale Schwartz (Lisa) of Liberty and Lisa Lynn Schwartz of Quincy; two great grandchildren, Cole Schwartz and Blake Schwartz; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred; his daughter in law, Ann Marie Oitker; two grandsons, Daniel Lee Oitker and Steven Robert Oitker; and two brothers, Merle Oitker and Lowell Oitker.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Payson with Pastor Terry Henry officiating. Burial will be in Franks Cemetery, Plainville, Illinois.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Friday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the funeral home in Payson.
Memorials may be made to the Franks Cemetery Association.
