RUBY IRENE BERBLINGER
Ruby Irene Berblinger, 87, of Quincy, formerly of Mendon, passed away at 6:55 pm Thursday (March 29, 2018) in Sunset Home.
Born June 10, 1930 in Lewis County, Missouri, Irene was the daughter of William Earl and Ruby Mihlhauser Smith. She married Kenneth E. Berblinger on December 31, 1948 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2007.
Irene was a member of the Adams County Democratic Party. She was an excellent self-taught seamstress. Irene enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, camping, being outdoors and taking walks in the timber. She especially loved spending time with her family and her dogs. Irene's son Kenneth Michael "Mike" Berblinger dying in Vietnam was a lifelong heartache that she bravely faced every day.
Irene was first employed at International Shoe Company and then at Motorola until it's closing. She then became a home care giver and a homemaker for her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Retta Knapp (George) of Blanchard, ID; three grandchildren, Ethan Knapp (Jesse), Pierce Knapp (Katie) and George "Josh" Knapp (Mandi); four great grandchildren, Reid, Rowyn, Ahvah and Lillian; ten brothers, Ted Smith (Zelda) of Quincy, Joe Smith (Kim) of AZ, Donald Smith of Mendon, Charles "Chuck" Smith (Janie) of CT, Marvin Smith (Dorothy) of Hamilton, IL, Russell Smith (Becky) of Clayton, IL, Jim Smith (Linda) of Paloma, IL, George Smith of Quincy, Henry Smith (Cindy) of Clayton, IL and Tom Smith of Loraine, IL; and three sisters, Margaret Anderson-Nelson of Quincy, Peggy Rischar of Salmon, ID and Lucy Moore (Doug) of Dwight, IL. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kenneth; her son Kenneth Michael "Mike" Berblinger; three brothers, William, Harry and John Smith; and an infant sister Mary Jane Smith.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:30 in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 10:00 until 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to The Haven Unit at Sunset Home or to the Disabled Veteran National Foundation.
