Russell E. Gehring

RUSSELL  E.  GEHRING

   Russell Edward Gehring, 90, of St. Cloud, Florida, died Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. 
 
   Born January 26, 1928 in Quincy, Russ was the  son of Paul Frank and Helen Rees Gehring.  He married Patricia Ann McKenna on December 6, 1953.  She preceded him in death in 2006.
  
   Russ attended St. Francis Catholic School and Quincy High School.  He served in the United States Army during World War II and graduated from the University of Missouri in 1954 with a Bachelor*s Degree in Agriculture.

   Russ managed a pineapple plantation in Hawaii, worked at Moorman Manufacturing and worked for International Harvester in Galesburg, IL.  After living in Galesburg for many years, Russ and Pat relocated to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands in 1983 where they owned and operated several successful gift shops on the islands of St. Thomas and St. John.  In 1994, the couple retired in St. Cloud, Florida.
   
   Russ will be deeply missed by his close friends and family, especially his nieces and nephews, and his neighbors, Mabel Pattison, Mike and Maryann Conley, Carmen Mitchell, Jose Felix, and Helson and Anitya Gonzalez.  He is also survived by a sister, Janet Gehring Coe of Springfield, IL and a sister-in-law, Amiko McKenna of Quincy, IL.

   In addition to his parents and wife, Russ was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Gehring Willson, and a brother, Robert Paul Gehring.
   
   Cremation has been accorded to Russell.  Memorial services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 (March 10, 2018) in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy with Father Lou Schlangen officiating.

   Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:00  until the time of the service at the funeral home.

   In lieu of memorials, the family requests you merely remember Russ in your thoughts and prayers.
