RUTH N. STEPHENS
Ruth N. Stephens, 91, of Quincy, died at 6:00 p.m. Sunday (April 30, 2017) in Good Samaritan Home.
Born June 27, 1925 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Ruth was the daughter of John L. and Audrey R. Shoemaker Stephens. Ruth was married Glen Rowley of Pittsfield. To this marriage were born four children Glenda, Peggy, Steve and Kenny. She later adopted her nephew John Wayne Stephens.
Ruth was always an active member of her church and for the last several years faithfully attended chapel services at Good Samaritan Home. She loved helping others by volunteering for the Salvation Army and Senior Citizens Center where she would deliver groceries to the homebound.
Ruth worked at various jobs including running her own daycare. She was an avid baker and cake decorator. She worked several years for her brother Dr. Roger Stephens at his Mendon Veterinary Clinic. She moved to Kansas, OK in the early 80's to run the kitchen at the Cookson Hills Christian School, then transferred to Oberlin, KS to the school there. After Oberlin she moved to Fayetteville, AR in 1992 to near her son Steve.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly "Peggy" Kepple (Thurman) of Macomb, IL; five grandchildren, Scott Kepple (Jill), Tim Kepple (Trisha), Teresa Kepple, Bryan Kepple and Tracey Fernandez; eight great grandchildren, Steven Fowler, Travis Kepple, Christopher Fernandez, Sierra Fernandez, Araceli Fernandez, Hallie Grace Kepple, Gavin Goodpasture and Myles Kepple; two great great granddaughters Aleah and Macey Kepple; a brother, Dr. Roger Stephens (Betty) of Good Hope, IL; two sisters, Virginia "Ginny" Eager of Quincy, IL and Alberta Corniels of Montgomery, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Glenda Rowley; three sons, John Wayne, Stephen, and Kenneth; a grandson, Christopher Kepple; four brothers, Vernon Wayne Stephens, Charles Warren Stephens, Norman Ray Stephens and Howard Stephens; and a sister, Vera Rice.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon 2:00 p.m. in the Wee Kirk Chapel at Good Samaritan Home with Chaplain James Riley officiating. Burial will be in the Samuel Taylor Cemetery in Rockport, Illinois.
Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at the Wee Kirk Chapel at Good Samaritan Home.
