Sherry Vrandenburg, 66, of Quincy, died at 9:52 a.m. Friday (January 23, 2015) in her home.
Born March 20, 1948 in Keokuk, Iowa, Sherry was the daughter of Ira T. and G. Alene Banks Howard. She married Dwight Franklin "Andy" Vrandenburg on May 29, 1971 in West Point, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1993.
Sherry was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Mendon where she taught Sunday School for several years. She was a member of the Amputee Support Group and enjoyed being a volunteer at the Adams County Fair each year in the booth sponsored by the Bear Creek American Legion Post. Sherry looked forward each week to meet with friends for dinner, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Sherry was a graduate of Bowen High School and earned her Associate Degree from Carl Sandburg College in 1995. She was employed as a custodian and cook for many years with the Unity School District in Mendon until her retirement.
Survivors include her daughter, Julie Dietrich (Matt) of Quincy; a son, Jon Vrandenburg (Kristin) of Quincy; two grandchildren, Charlotte Dietrich and Olivia Dietrich; a brother, Gary Howard (Linda) of Liberty, IL; a sister, Janice Wurth (Bob) of Florissant, MO; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andy; two brothers, Larry Howard and Danny Howard; and an infant sister, Carole Jean Howard.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 in Salem Lutheran Church in Mendon. Burial will be in the South Cemetery in Basco, Illinois.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and Wednesday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at Salem Lutheran Church.
