Tommy Cookson, 55, of Quincy, went home to be with Jesus his Lord and Savior at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday (July 22, 2015) at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Born January 24, 1960, in Quincy, Tommy was the son of William "Billy" and Edith Drummond Cookson. He married Frances "Franny" Brown on October 14, 1978, in Quincy. She survives.
Tommy was a member of Madison Park Christian Church and a 1978 graduate of Quincy High School. He enjoyed fishing, grilling out, golfing and watching Nascar. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.
Tommy served his country in the Army National Guard. He was full time active duty for 24 years, retiring in 2005 as a Sergeant First Class. After his retirement from the military, he was employed at Premium Waters Company for a short time. He was currently working for the Illinois State Highway Department.
Survivors include his wife, Franny; five sons, Dusty Cookson (Monica) of Jacksonville, IL, Lucas Cookson (Lelah) of Ashland, IL, Quentin Cookson, Austin Cookson and Dawson Cookson all of Quincy; four grandchildren, Chloe Cookson, Clara Cookson, Conleigh Cookson all of Jacksonville, IL and Reese Cookson of Ashland, IL; one sister, Pamela Hankins (Douglas) of Quincy; two brothers, Larry Cookson (Jeanie) and Bradley Cookson (Eva) both of Quincy; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Rubin Bigger.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Sackett officiating. Burial with military honors by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail and the Quincy American Legion Post No. 37 will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Children's Education Fund.
