Tracy Atterberg died in his home Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 59 after a 3½-year battle with cancer.
Born July 29, 1956, he was a son of John Russell and Lela Shaw Atterberg. In 1983 he was united in marriage with Cheryl Lee Ward, and together they had three children. She preceded him in death in 2001. He later married Linda Diane Schaffner, and she survives.
Tracy graduated from Keokuk High School in 1974 and had been employed for 40 years at Keokuk Area Hospital where he had many dear friends.
In prior years, Tracy was very involved in sanctioned trap shooting and was well-known for his skill in the sport. He traveled throughout many states, won many shoots and truly loved it. His love for guns continued throughout his life.
Tracy was passionate about buying and selling antiques and collectibles, and spent untold hours at auctions and yard sales. He had friends wherever he went, could talk to anyone about anything and had an uncanny knack for finding the best deals.
Tracy was generous beyond measure and was always willing to help anyone in any way he could. He was an amazing storyteller and would recall and retell events in great detail (real or embellished!).
The most important thing in life to Tracy was his family, especially his beloved children who survive him, Laura Sievert and her husband Justin, Christopher Atterberg and his wife Jenny, and Brandi Johnson and her husband Tyler; two stepchildren, Elena Boltz and her significant other Brock Hagaman, and Brian Boltz and his wife Christina; and eight grandchildren whom he adored, Aiden and Carson Atterberg, Elliot Sievert, Jamielin Tomlinson, and Eli, Bella, Lily and Milo Boltz. He had hoped to meet his precious granddaughter (Susie Q), due next month. He is also survived by his mother, Lela Liegerot, and two brothers Mark Atterberg and his wife Susie, and Jack Atterberg and his wife Sharon, plus many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his father John Russell Atterberg, his stepfather Byron "Lug" Liegerot and his brother, Denis Atterberg.
