VELMA PERYL VOLLMER
Velma Peryl Vollmer, 97, of Quincy died at 1:37 a.m. Friday (January 17, 2014) in Good Samaritan Home.
Born January 31, 1916 in Liberty, IL, Velma was the daughter of Henry Lewis and Dora Louise Henning Vollmer.
Velma was a member of Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church. She attended Liberty High School and graduated from Quincy High School in 1934 and from the Frances Beauty School in Quincy. She enjoyed traveling having been to all fifty states and many foreign countries.
Velma owned and operated a beauty salon in Quincy and later was employed as a secretary and office manager for various companies in several different states. She later returned to Quincy to become a caregiver for her parents.
Survivors include a niece; Phyllis Hofmeister (Robert) of Quincy; a nephew Ted K. Vollmer (Linda) of Racine, WI; two other nieces Nyla Hughes of Milwaukee, WI and Nedra Orr of Jacksonville, IL; four other nephews Neal Null of Colchester, IL, Norman Null of Laurel, MD, Nolan Null of Catonsville, MD and Ned Null of Blandinsville, IL. Also surviving are several great nieces and nephews and special friends.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Dr. Floyd Vollmer and a sister Clara Null.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning 10:00 a.m. in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Cox officiating. Burial will be in the Xander Cemetery in Liberty, IL.
Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church or to the Wings Comfort Care Program at Good Samaritan Home.
