VIRGIL R. BREWER
Virgil R. Brewer 91, of Peoria, died at 4:42 pm Thursday (November 23, 2017) in the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy.
Born March 4, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri, Virgil was the son of Orville and Lena House Brewer.
Mr. Brewer proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a submariner. He served aboard many submarines including the Submarine Sunfish. Virgil received the Victory Medal for his service during WWII.
Virgil was a graduate of Murphysboro High School. He was a lifetime member of AMVETS Post No. 64 where he served as Past Commander. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Peoria No. 2602, as well as the Navy Club and a founder and last of the original members of the Big 25 Sportsman Club in Victoria, Illinois. An avid outdoorsman, Virgil enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was also an avid reader.
Virgil was employed as a Traveling Salesman selling tools for Isaac Walker, which later sold to Barrett Industrial where he retired from.
Survivors include his daughter in law, Mary Brewer of East Peoria, IL; two grandchildren, Nicholas Brewer (Michelle) and Aimee Tucker; four great grandchildren, Jack, Grant, Haely and Ava; and one great great granddaughter, Aubrey.
Mr. Brewer was preceded in death by his parents and his three sons, Steven Brewer, Stan Brewer and Mark Brewer.
Cremation rights have been accorded to Virgil. There are no services scheduled at this time. The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
