WAYNE DAVID HOENER
Wayne David Hoener, 74, of Fairfield, Ohio, formerly of Quincy, passed away at 7:50 am Thursday (June 7, 2018) in his home with family.
Born August 5, 1943 in Quincy, Wayne was the son of Russell and Naoma Wilkey Hoener.
Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Army while Stationed in Germany from 1963 until 1966.
A 1961 graduate of Quincy High School, Wayne attended the University of Illinois and received his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Quincy University after his enlistment.
Over the years Mr. Hoener had several jobs that moved him across the Midwest. He first worked for Motorola in Quincy and Sheller Globe in Keokuk. He later worked for Northern Fiber in Holland, Michigan. He then worked for Globe Industries in Toledo, Ohio before settling in Cincinnati to work for Leggett and Platt. He then stayed in the Cincinnati area to enjoy many years of retirement.
Throughout retirement Wayne loved his German Shepherds. He was a staple of his neighborhood as he took Woof, Honey and Trudy on long walks everyday, and made sure they met everyone they came across. He also enjoyed studying history, collecting WWII era memorabilia, educating people about our Constitution, fostering dogs (46 over the last few years), woodworking, and motorcycle camping trips. Most of all, Wayne was a patriot who loved and respected his country and the freedom that it stands for.
He is survived by his son, Eric Hoener of Chicago; and several loving cousins. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has been accorded to Wayne. Graveside services with military honors by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home.
Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 9:00 until 10:15 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Ohio German Shepherd Rescue, the Illinois German Shepherd Rescue, the Quincy Humane Society or the Hamilton Ohio Humane Society
