   Wayne Allen Maggart, 94, of Quincy, passed away at 10:15 a.m. Thursday (November 22, 2018) in his home surrounded by his loving family.

   Born December 2, 1923 in Sullivan, Missouri, Wayne was the son of  John Allen and Goldie M. Wiedenkofer Maggart.  He married Virginia L. Usherwood on February 8, 1951 in Quincy.  She survives.

   Mr. Maggart served his country in the U. S. Army during WW II.  He was privileged to go on the Great River  Honor Flight trip in April 2011 with his best friend Ed Olson.

   An avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues, he never missed a game. Wayne also enjoyed Nascar racing with his favorite driver Dale Earnhardt Sr., Bowling was a passion in his younger years and won many awards and trophies. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, hunting, fishing, and finding mushrooms. Wayne was a true sports fan he played golf for many years at Westview golf course with his daughters as his caddie . He was a life member of the North Side Boat Club, and a member of the Gardner Denver Quarter Century Club, a 50 year member of the Quincy V. F. W. Post 5129 and a former member of the Quincy American Legion Post 37.  Wayne was devoted to his family and loved sharing time with them and with his pet Pomeranian, Katie, and cat Allie.

   Mr. Maggart was employed for over 36 years as a machinist at Gardner Denver Company, retiring in 1987. He later was a bartender at North Side Boat Club and then at the family's bar and grill Mr. Bill's, he thoroughly enjoyed serving coffee to his early morning buddies for over 20 years until he was 90 years old.

   Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Virginia; seven children, Jeanette Winn (Rex) of Fowler, IL, Barbara Winfield (James) of Quincy, Patricia Diane Stamper (Floyd) of Sycamore, IL, Robert Wayne Maggart of Quincy, Debra Grootens (Kevin) of Quincy, Beverly Lang of Quincy and  Katherine Calvin (Scott) of Quincy; nineteen grandchildren, Leslie Diane Winn, Adam Rex Winn (Demi Richter), Charles Winfield, Cara Kleiboeker (Mark), James Allen Winfield (Dawnielle), Erica Stamper, Jacob Stamper (Sarah), Robbie Lee Maggart, Robin Mathews (Mike), Jamie Evans (Zane), Jason Grootens (Laura), Jeremy Grootens (Fiance', Alexis Beswick), Raymond Leindecker III, Erin Schlee (Kevin), Lisa Leindecker, Kevin Leindecker, Keenan Gillum, Amanda Aileen Rose (Alex) and Cory Calvin; forty three great grandchildren with one more due in March 2019; and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Maggart was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Floyd Stamper II; two great granddaughters, Magnolia Schlee and Aurora Schlee; four brothers, John Maggart Jr., Bobby Maggart, Billie Maggart Sr. and Gail Maggart Sr.; and three sisters, Lorene Wardlow, Lucy Owsley and Agnes Bowen.

   Funeral services will be Monday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Chaplain Jerry Edison officiating.  Burial with Military Honors by the Quincy American Legion Post 37 and Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

   Visitation will be Sunday evening from 3:00 to 6:00 and Monday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.       

   Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or the Great River Honor Flight.
