Mr. William Watters, 86, of Quincy, died at 11:20 a.m. Monday (June 3, 2013) in his home.
Born October 5, 1926 in Quincy, Bill was the son of Joseph and Lena Henkenmeier Watters. He married Barbara J. Step on September 11, 1947 in Quincy. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2002.
Mr. Watters served his country in the U. S. Navy as a signalman and quartermaster during WW II and Korea. What Bill enjoyed most was spending time with family and attending his grandchildren's activities, reading and woodworking, building many beautiful pieces of furniture for family and friends.
Bill worked at Litteral Manufacturing as a Tool & Die Maker and then was a self employed carpenter for many years. He retired in 1980.
Survivors include two sons, William R. Watters of Quincy and Robert Watters (Karen) of Quincy; two daughters, Linda Speckhart of Bloomington, IL and Tanna Stroot (John) of Quincy; six grandchildren, Ryan Speckhart, David Stroot (Ashley Long), Emily Stroot, Charles Stroot, Katie Watters (Fiance' Darrell Kline) and Stacy Roberts (Luke); a great granddaughter, Lydia Jeanne Stroot; and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Mr. Watters was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; a son in law, Terry Speckhart; a brother, Royal Watters; and a sister, Vanita Sterling.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Steve Disseler. Burial with Military Honors by the Quincy American Legion Post 37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Friday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
