Mr. William Frank Humphrey Sr., 91, of the Bickford Cottage, Quincy, formerly of Payson, Illinois, died at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday (January 2, 2013) in Bickford Cottage.
Born August 3, 1921 in Knoxville, Tennessee, Frank was the son of James and Frances (Farr) Humphrey. He married Shirley G. Fuller on January 9, 1947 in Dalton, Georgia. She preceded him in death on November 10, 1999.
Mr. Humphrey served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Air Force during WW II and Korean War. He was awarded the Air Medal, two Oak Leaf Clusters for service and the Purple Heart for wounds received in action in the Asiatic Pacific during WW II. Frank was a member of the Payson V.F.W. Post 2061 and the Payson Methodist Church. He had served on the board at the Methodist Church and on the Village of Payson board.
Mr. Humphrey was a self employed general contractor in the Adams and Pike County area for many years, retiring in 2002.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Humphrey and his wife Gerry of Lemont, IL and William "Bill" Humphrey and his wife Marilyn of Payson, IL; two grandchildren, Christopher Humphrey and his wife Susan of Parker, CO and Jennifer Smith and her husband Scott of Quincy; three great grandchildren, Lance Woolam of Quincy, and Jack and Emily Humphrey of Parker, CO; and a step great granddaughter, Julia Smith of Quincy.
Mr. Humphrey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; a grandson, Scott Humphrey; one sister, Dorothy (Perrine) Bradshaw, and four brothers, Everett, Donald, William L., and Kenneth Perrine.
Cremation rites have been accorded to Mr. Humphrey. Memorial services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Payson by Clif Weisinger. Private inurnment with Military Honors will be in the Payson New Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:00 until time of services at the funeral home in Payson.
